World English Bible Therefore he poured the fierceness of his anger on him, and the strength of battle; and it set him on fire all around, but he didn't know; and it burned him, but he didn't take it to heart."

La colère de Dieu, sous l'image d'un feu dévorant : voir par exemple 30.27,33. Elle s'est allumée tout autour de lui (les invasions assyriennes), et il n'a pas compris ;

Elle l'a consumé (destruction par les Chaldéens), et il n'y a point pris garde : dans beaucoup de passages, (par exemple 45.9-10 ; 53.1 et suivants ; 64.7, etc.), le prophète adresse au peuple de l'exil des reproches qui prouvent qu'il n'avait pas encore été amélioré par le châtiment ; s'il est sauvé, ce sera donc par pure grâce.
