Le monothéisme est affirmé ici avec une énergie particulière. Peut-être le prophète a-t-il l'intention de l'opposer à la religion des Perses, qui, quoique plus pure que le paganisme vulgaire, admettait cependant deux principes éternels, toujours en guerre, Ormuzd, source de la lumière et du bien, et Ahriman, source des ténèbres et du mal. Rien n'existe qui ne soit la création de Jéhova.

Il faut prendre ici la lumière et les ténèbres dans le sens physique.

Si Dieu crée le malheur c'est dans un but saint, pour punir et pour sauver.
