Comparez Michée 6.6-8. Les pauvres sont les protégés de Dieu, d'après l'Ancien Testament, qui recommande fréquemment la bienfaisance. Voir par exemple Job 31.16-20 ; Ezéchiel 18.16-17 ; comparez la parole Jacques 1.27 sur la religion pure et sans tache.

Ta propre chair : ton propre frère israélite, qui est comme un second toi-même (comparez l'emploi de cette expression Genèse 29.14 ; 2Samuel 5.1).
