Ils reconnaîtront dans le Messie le Roi des rois et le Seigneur des seigneurs ; comparez Esaïe 52.13-15.L'arbre élevé n'est pas ici, comme on pourrait se le figurer, le roi de Babylone et la puissance païenne. D'après tout ce qui précède, Ezéchiel désigne par cette expression la maison royale de Juda si glorieuse autrefois et qui, en la personne de Sédécias, allait descendre au dernier degré de l'abaissement.L'arbre bas est cette même maison royale qui, relevée dans la personne du Messie, atteindra en lui un degré de gloire et de puissance, non seulement égal, mais supérieur à son élévation passée.L'arbre vert, que Dieu fait sécher, est cette même famille royale frappée de stérilité en la personne de Jéhojachin, resté sans fils qui pût lui succéder (Jérémie 22.30, note), et en celle de Sédécias, dont tous les fils furent égorgés à Ribla (2Rois 25.7).L'arbre sec qui verdit est le Messie qui, comme l'avait déjà prédit Esaïe, aura une postérité, innombrable. Anne, la mère de Samuel, avait déjà proclamé, la loi du gouvernement divin dont Ezéchiel fait l'application dans ce passage (comparez 1Samuel 2.4-8) et que Marie, la mère du Messie, célébrera de nouveau à l'occasion de sa naissance (Luc 1.51-53).
