Le prophète formule dramatiquement le sentiment de joie jalouse qui animait les marchands tyriens.

La porte des peuples. Cette expression dans la bouche de ces païens ne peut se rapporter au rôle de Jérusalem comme instrument du salut des Gentils. Il paraît par tout ce verset que Jérusalem était, aussi bien que Tyr, un objet d'attention pour les peuples ; il semblerait même, quoique nous n'ayons pas de donnée sur ce point, qu'elle excitait la jalousie de Tyr au point de vue commercial, peut-être par un échange de marchandises à l'intérieur, au moyen des caravanes. Tyr prétendait être la seule ville célèbre sur toute cette côte entre l'Egypte et l'Asie-Mineure.
