Ils te feront descendre dans la tombe, tu mourras d’une mort violente en pleine mer.
Ils te feront descendre dans le gouffre, Et tu mourras de la mort des vaincus, Au cœur des mers.
Ils te feront descendre en la fosse, et tu mourras au coeur de la mer, de la mort des blessés à mort.

La mort est ici le symbole de l'abaissement et de la destruction. Le prophète parle, non d'un individu, mais du roi de Tyr, dans le sens abstrait. Il ne faut donc pas chercher ici l'annonce du genre de mort d'Ithobal, qui régnait alors.
