Elam. Ce pays était situé sur le versant de la haute chaîne qui borne à l'est la plaine de la Babylonie (comparez Jérémie 49.34, note). Il avait été dans les temps les plus antiques le siège d'un empire puissant (comparez Genèse 14.5,9). Les inscriptions récemment découvertes ont permis de reconstruire en partie l'histoire de la monarchie des Kudur, à laquelle appartenait le Kédor-Laomer dont il est parlé Genèse 14.1. La répétition presque identique des mêmes phrases que dans les versets 22 et 23, serait étrange, si l'on ne se souvenait que ce sont là des refrains qui conviennent au caractère de la chanson populaire dont cette complainte affecte la forme.
