Esaü est si affamé qu'il parle d'avaler, et non de manger, et désigne précipitamment ce mets par sa couleur, qui le frappe (roux, adom). C'est ce terme qui lui a valu son nom d'Edom, qui lui convenait d'autant mieux qu'il était roux de nature.
