Jacob ne parle ici que des conséquences dangereuses de l'acte ; mais au chapitre 49 dans la bénédiction de ses fils, il exprime toute l'horreur qu'il lui a inspirée et ne donne ni à Siméon ni à Lévi le droit d'aînesse qui, une fois enlevé à Ruben (35.22 ; 49.3-4), leur reviendrait pourtant. D'autre part, acceptant le résultat comme un fait et tenant compte de la vaillance et de la juste indignation qui avait animé ses fils, il se l'approprie comme un exploit qu'il aurait accompli par eux (48.22).
