C'est-à-dire de tout le butin, Hébreux 7.4 ; Genèse 14.18 et suivants

Melchisédek, en hébreu, signifie roi de justice, Salem ou Schalem est l'adjectif du substantif Schalom, paix, et signifie : celui qui a la paix.

Le lieu ainsi nommé est probablement Jérusalem. (Psaumes 76.3)

L'auteur ne fait qu'indiquer en passant la belle signification de ces deux noms. Ils répondaient au caractère personnel de celui qui les portait et aux fonctions dont il était revêtu : il servait le Dieu très haut comme sacrificateur dans sa famille et dans son royaume, où il faisait régner la justice et la paix.

L'auteur voit donc certainement en lui un type de celui qui devait venir réaliser parfaitement dans son règne la justice et la paix.
