Jérémie 11

    • Un peuple qui a trahi ses engagements

      1 Parole adressée à Jérémie de la part de l’Éternel :

      2 Écoutez les paroles de cette alliance, Et dites-les aux hommes de Juda et aux habitants de Jérusalem !

      3 Tu leur diras : Ainsi parle l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël : Maudit soit l’homme qui n’écoute pas Les paroles de cette alliance.

      4 Que j’ai prescrite à vos pères, Le jour où je les ai fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, Du creuset de fer, en disant : Écoutez ma voix Et faites tout ce que je vous prescrirai ; Alors vous serez mon peuple, Et je serai votre Dieu.

      5 Ainsi, j’accomplirai le serment Que j’ai fait à vos pères De leur donner un pays qui découle de lait et de miel, Comme (vous le voyez) aujourd’hui. Et je répondis : Amen, Éternel !

      6 L’Éternel me dit : Crie toutes ces paroles dans les villes de Juda Et dans les rues de Jérusalem, dis : Écoutez les paroles de cette alliance Et mettez-les en pratique !

      7 Car assurément j’ai été un témoin envers vos pères Depuis le jour où je les ai fait monter du pays d’Égypte Jusqu’à ce jour ; Dès le matin, j’ai porté ce témoignage : Écoutez ma voix !

      8 Mais ils n’ont pas écouté, Ils n’ont pas tendu l’oreille. Ils ont suivi chacun l’obstination de leur cœur mauvais ; Alors j’ai accompli contre eux Toutes les paroles de cette alliance, Que je leur avais ordonné de mettre en pratique Et qu’ils n’ont pas mise en pratique.

      9 L’Éternel me dit : Il y a une conspiration entre les hommes de Juda Et les habitants de Jérusalem.

      10 Ils sont retournés aux fautes de leurs premiers pères, Qui ont refusé d’écouter mes paroles, Et ils se sont ralliés à d’autres dieux, Pour leur rendre un culte. La maison d’Israël et la maison de Juda ont rompu mon alliance Que j’avais conclue avec leurs pères.

      11 C’est pourquoi ainsi parle l’Éternel : Voici ! Je fais venir sur eux le malheur, Ils ne pourront s’en sortir. Ils crieront vers moi, Et je ne les écouterai pas.

      12 Les villes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem Iront invoquer les dieux auxquels ils offrent de l’encens, Mais qui ne les sauveront certes pas au temps de leur malheur.

      13 Car tu as autant de dieux que de villes, Juda ! Tu as disposé autant d’autels de la honte Que tu as de rues, Jérusalem, Oui, d’autels pour y encenser Baal...

      14 Et toi, ne prie pas en faveur de ce peuple, N’élève en leur faveur ni cri, ni prière ; Car je ne les écoute point, Quand ils m’invoquent à cause de leur malheur.

      15 Qu’est-ce que mon bien-aimé a encore à faire dans ma Maison ? On commet des infamies sans nombre ! Qu’on enlève de chez toi la viande sacrée, Car c’est quand tu fais le mal que tu exultes !

      16 Olivier verdoyant, remarquable par la beauté de son fruit, Tel est le nom que t’avait donné l’Éternel. Au bruit d’un grand fracas, il y met le feu, Et ses rameaux ne vaudront plus rien.

      17 L’Éternel des armées, qui t’a planté, Appelle sur toi le malheur, A cause du mal que la maison d’Israël et la maison de Juda Se sont fait à elles-mêmes en m’irritant, En offrant de l’encens à Baal.

      18 L’Éternel me l’a fait savoir, et je l’ai su. Alors tu m’as fait voir leurs agissements.

      19 J’étais comme un agneau confiant Qu’on mène à la boucherie, Et je ne connaissais pas Les desseins qu’ils méditaient contre moi : Détruisons l’arbre avec son fruit ! Retranchons-le de la terre des vivants, Et qu’on ne se souvienne plus de son nom !

      20 Mais l’Éternel des armées est un juste juge Qui sonde les reins et les cœurs. Je verrai la vengeance que tu tireras d’eux, Car c’est à toi que j’ai confié ma cause.

      21 C’est pourquoi ainsi parle l’Éternel Contre les gens d’Anatoth, Qui en veulent à ta vie et qui disent : Ne prophétise pas au nom de l’Éternel, Sinon tu mourras de notre main !

      22 C’est pourquoi ainsi parle l’Éternel des armées : Voici ! J’interviens contre eux : Les jeunes hommes mourront par l’épée, Leurs fils et leurs filles mourront par la famine.

      23 Il n’y aura d’eux aucun reste ; Car je ferai venir le malheur sur les gens d’Anatoth L’année où j’interviendrai contre eux.

      1 La parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l'Éternel, en ces mots :

      2 Écoutez les paroles de cette alliance, Et parlez aux hommes de Juda et aux habitants de Jérusalem !

      3 Dis-leur : Ainsi parle l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël : Maudit soit l'homme qui n'écoute point les paroles de cette alliance,

      4 Que j'ai prescrite à vos pères, Le jour où je les ai fait sortir du pays d'Égypte, De la fournaise de fer, en disant : Écoutez ma voix, et faites tout ce que je vous ordonnerai ; Alors vous serez mon peuple, Je serai votre Dieu,

      5 Et j'accomplirai le serment que j'ai fait à vos pères, De leur donner un pays où coulent le lait et le miel, Comme vous le voyez aujourd'hui. -Et je répondis : Amen, Éternel !

      6 L'Éternel me dit : Publie toutes ces paroles dans les villes de Juda Et dans les rues de Jérusalem, en disant : Écoutez les paroles de cette alliance, Et mettez-les en pratique !

      7 Car j'ai averti vos pères, Depuis le jour où je les ai fait monter du pays d'Égypte Jusqu'à ce jour, Je les ai avertis tous les matins, en disant : Écoutez ma voix !

      8 Mais ils n'ont pas écouté, ils n'ont pas prêté l'oreille, Ils ont suivi chacun les penchants de leur mauvais coeur ; Alors j'ai accompli sur eux toutes les paroles de cette alliance, Que je leur avais ordonné d'observer et qu'ils n'ont point observée.

      9 L'Éternel me dit : Il y a une conjuration entre les hommes de Juda Et les habitants de Jérusalem.

      10 Ils sont retournés aux iniquités de leurs premiers pères, Qui ont refusé d'écouter mes paroles, Et ils sont allés après d'autres dieux, pour les servir. La maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda ont violé mon alliance, Que j'avais faite avec leurs pères.

      11 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Éternel : Voici, je vais faire venir sur eux des malheurs Dont ils ne pourront se délivrer. Ils crieront vers moi, Et je ne les écouterai pas.

      12 Les villes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem Iront invoquer les dieux auxquels ils offrent de l'encens, Mais ils ne les sauveront pas au temps de leur malheur.

      13 Car tu as autant de dieux que de villes, ô Juda ! Et autant Jérusalem a de rues, Autant vous avez dressé d'autels aux idoles, D'autels pour offrir de l'encens à Baal...

      14 Et toi, n'intercède pas en faveur de ce peuple, N'élève pour eux ni supplications ni prières ; Car je ne les écouterai pas, Quand ils m'invoqueront à cause de leur malheur.

      15 Que ferait mon bien-aimé dans ma maison ? Il s'y commet une foule de crimes. La chair sacrée disparaîtra devant toi. Quand tu fais le mal, c'est alors que tu triomphes !

      16 Olivier verdoyant, remarquable par la beauté de son fruit, Tel est le nom que t'avait donné l'Éternel ; Au bruit d'un grand fracas, il l'embrase par le feu, Et ses rameaux sont brisés.

      17 L'Éternel des armées, qui t'a planté, Appelle sur toi le malheur, A cause de la méchanceté de la maison d'Israël et de la maison de Juda, Qui ont agi pour m'irriter, en offrant de l'encens à Baal.

      18 L'Éternel m'en a informé, et je l'ai su ; Alors tu m'as fait voir leurs oeuvres.

      19 J'étais comme un agneau familier qu'on mène à la boucherie, Et j'ignorais les mauvais desseins qu'ils méditaient contre moi : Détruisons l'arbre avec son fruit ! Retranchons-le de la terre des vivants, Et qu'on ne se souvienne plus de son nom ! -

      20 Mais l'Éternel des armées est un juste juge, Qui sonde les reins et les coeurs. Je verrai ta vengeance s'exercer contre eux, Car c'est à toi que je confie ma cause.

      21 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Éternel contre les gens d'Anathoth, Qui en veulent à ta vie, et qui disent : Ne prophétise pas au nom de l'Éternel, Ou tu mourras de notre main !

      22 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées : Voici, je vais les châtier ; Les jeunes hommes mourront par l'épée, Leurs fils et leurs filles mourront par la famine.

      23 Aucun d'eux n'échappera ; Car je ferai venir le malheur sur les gens d'Anathoth, L'année où je les châtierai.

      1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

      2 Hear the words of this covenant, and speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;

      3 and say to them, Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: Cursed is the man who doesn't hear the words of this covenant,

      4 which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so you shall be my people, and I will be your God;

      5 that I may establish the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day. Then answered I, and said, Amen, Yahweh.

      6 Yahweh said to me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear the words of this covenant, and do them.

      7 For I earnestly protested to your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.

      8 Yet they didn't obey, nor turn their ear, but walked everyone in the stubbornness of their evil heart: therefore I brought on them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they didn't do them.

      9 Yahweh said to me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

      10 They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words; and they are gone after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

      11 Therefore thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will bring evil on them, which they shall not be able to escape; and they shall cry to me, but I will not listen to them.

      12 Then shall the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem go and cry to the gods to which they offer incense: but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

      13 For according to the number of your cities are your gods, Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have you set up altars to the shameful thing, even altars to burn incense to Baal.

      14 Therefore don't pray for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them; for I will not hear them in the time that they cry to me because of their trouble.

      15 What has my beloved to do in my house, since she has worked lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from you? when you do evil, then you rejoice.

      16 Yahweh called your name, A green olive tree, beautiful with goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he has kindled fire on it, and its branches are broken.

      17 For Yahweh of Armies, who planted you, has pronounced evil against you, because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have worked for themselves in provoking me to anger by offering incense to Baal.

      18 Yahweh gave me knowledge of it, and I knew it: then you showed me their doings.

      19 But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I didn't know that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

      20 But, Yahweh of Armies, who judges righteously, who tests the heart and the mind, I shall see your vengeance on them; for to you have I revealed my cause.

      21 Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, You shall not prophesy in the name of Yahweh, that you not die by our hand;

      22 therefore thus says Yahweh of Armies, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine;

      23 and there shall be no remnant to them: for I will bring evil on the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.
