Les versets 7 à 13 renferment la première partie de la solution du problème posé à Dieu par le prophète : elle est tirée du jugement prochain des méchants. C'est Dieu qui parle.

Ma maison, non pas mon temple ; mais, en général, tout le pays envisagé comme le domicile de Dieu ; mon héritage : le peuple.

Ce qu'aime mon âme : ce peuple qui va être livré à ses ennemis acharnés.

Le peuple de Dieu était à l'origine, le « bien-aimé de Son âme », précieux à Ses yeux ; mais, suite aux actes commis par ce peuple, Dieu le livra à ses ennemis.

Beaucoup d'églises, soi-disant vivantes, ressemblent à des « oiseaux tachetés », (verset Jérémie 12:9, version Darby)*, présentant un mélange de religion et d'idées du monde, avec ses modes passagères, ses vaines poursuites, et ses diverses pollutions.

Le peuple de Dieu était alors également semblable à ce genre d'oiseaux, tachetés : tels étaient les enfants d'Israël, suite à leurs actes de folie ; les bêtes des champs et les oiseaux furent appelés pour en faire leur proie, (verset Jérémie 12:9)*. Tout le pays était dans la désolation. Tant que les jugements divins ne furent réellement infligés aux Juifs, aucun d'eux ne prenait à cœur l'avertissement de l'Éternel.

Quand la main de Dieu est levée, à titre d'avertissement solennel, et que les hommes ne la voient pas, ils sont alors incités à la discerner. L'argent et l'or ne seront d'aucune utilité, au jour de la colère de l'Éternel. Tous les efforts des pécheurs non repentants, pour échapper à la misère, ainsi que leurs vaines tentatives d'exécution de soi-disant bonnes œuvres, finiront dans la confusion.

      22 You have called, as in the day of a solemn assembly, my terrors on every side; There was none that escaped or remained in the day of Yahweh's anger: Those that I have dandled and brought up has my enemy consumed.
