L'homme n'a une connaissance immédiate de Dieu que lorsqu'il reçoit de lui le pardon de ses péchés. Jusqu'alors un obstacle le sépare de lui, le sentiment de sa condamnation ; et Dieu lui apparaît autre qu'il n'est. Pour connaître Dieu, dans cette situation, il a besoin d'être instruit par le témoignage de ses frères. Mais le pardon, en lui ouvrant l'accès jusqu'à Dieu même, le rend apte à recevoir le Saint-Esprit, qui devient son docteur et grave la volonté divine dans son cœur (verset 33). Ainsi sont rendus superflus les intermédiaires humains qui lui étaient jadis nécessaires. Lui-même connaît Dieu. Comparez Esaïe 54.13 ; Jean 6.45 ; Hébreux 7.8-12 ; 10.15-18.
