World English Bible It happened, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and played the prostitute after the Baals, and made Baal Berith their god.

33 à 35 Transition à l'histoire des fils de Gédéon.

Baal-Berith : le Baal de l'alliance ; voir 2.11-13, note. Nous ne savons à quelle circonstance le Baal adoré à Sichem devait ce nom. Etait-ce, comme le Zeus orkios des Grecs, la divinité qu'invoquaient les Cananéens de la contrée dans les traités d'alliance qu'ils concluaient entre eux ou avec des voisins, comme les villes phéniciennes ? On lui avait élevé un temple à Sichem même (9.4).
