Saintes convocations. Lorsque l'assemblée se tenait au Tabernacle, il est possible que le culte se bornât aux sacrifices. Cependant l'expression employée paraît désigner quelque chose de plus. Et lorsque, plus tard, les assemblées durent se tenir, comme celles du jour du sabbat, dans les diverses localités du pays, il faut bien qu'elles fussent consacrées à quelques exercices religieux, tels que la lecture de la loi, les chants et les prières. Ce fut sans doute là l'origine de l'institution des synagogues qui paraît avoir précédé l'exil ; comparez Psaumes 74.4,8 et 2Rois 4.23.
