World English Bible Beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

Les mots : commençant par...et par...signifient que Jésus commença par le Pentateuque, et passa successivement aux livres de tous les prophètes, pour y relever et expliquer aux disciples ce qui avait rapport à ses souffrances et à sa mort, à sa résurrection et à sa gloire.

Luc ne nous dit pas quelles furent les parties des Ecritures que Jésus exposa. Il serait facile de suppléer à son silence, et on l'a souvent essayé.

Ainsi, il est très remarquable que telles parties des Ecritures, le Psaume Psaumes 22, Esaïe Esaïe 53, par exemple, après avoir commencé par un tableau saisissant des souffrances du Messie, se terminent par une description sublime de son triomphe et de sa gloire.

Mais il est probable qu'au lieu de détacher certains passages particuliers, le Sauveur fit comprendre aux disciples que tout, dans Moïse, dans la loi, dans les institutions du culte, surtout dans les sacrifices, était une prédiction symbolique et une préparation à son œuvre ; et que tout, dans les prophètes, dans leurs prédications de la volonté de Dieu, dans les promesses divines dont ils étaient les organes, avait un rapport direct à la rédemption de son peuple par le Libérateur qui lui était promis.

A mesure que les disciples acquièrent l'intelligence des Ecritures, ils sentent les obscurités de leur cœur faire place à la lumière, à leur doute succéder la confiance et, avant même d'avoir reconnu Jésus, ils lui appartiennent tout entiers. (versets 29,32)

Voilà l'action que Jésus voulait exercer sur leur esprit, au lieu de s'offrir brusquement à leur vue. (Comparer verset 16, note.)
