Il faut remarquer ces mots au pluriel ils le priaient, leur commander. Ce sont donc les démons qui parlent. L'abîme où les démons redoutent de retourner parait être le lieu où ils sont retenus et punis. (Apocalypse 9.1,2,11 ; 11.7 etc. ; comparez 2Pierre 2.4 ; Jude 1.13)

Marc (Marc 5.10, note) leur attribue cette demande : "de ne pas les envoyer hors de la contrée."

Cette différence montre, comme beaucoup d'autres, la complète indépendance des évangélistes les uns à l'égard des autres.
