Comme tous les faits contenus dans ce fragment, l'ascension de Jésus-Christ est rappelée en deux mots, d'où l'on pourrait conclure qu'elle eut lieu immédiatement après ce discours, le jour même de la résurrection. (Voir Luc 24.50 et suivants, notes ; Actes 1.1-9, notes.)

Après avoir parlé à Ses disciples, le Seigneur monta au ciel et Il s’assit : c’est une position de repos, Il avait terminé Son œuvre ; Il avait en même temps une position d'autorité : Il prit possession de Son Royaume. Il s'assit à la droite de Dieu, ce qui atteste Sa souveraine dignité, et Son pouvoir universel.

Quelles que soient les œuvres que Dieu opère en nous, tout ce qu’Il nous donne ou accepte de nous, est effectué par l’intermédiaire de Son Fils. Maintenant, Christ est glorifié avec la gloire qu'Il avait avant que le monde ne soit.

Les Apôtres allèrent, et prêchèrent en tout lieu. Bien que la doctrine qu'ils prêchaient soit spirituelle et céleste, elle était directement contraire à l'esprit et à l'état d'esprit de ce monde : elle rencontra beaucoup d'opposition, et fut entièrement destituée de tout support et de facilités de diffusion ; néanmoins, en peu d'années, elle fit le tour de la terre !

De nos jours, les serviteurs de Christ n'ont pas besoin de faire des miracles pour prouver la véracité de leur message : il est incontestable que les Écritures sont d'origine divine, et cela rend inexcusables ceux qui les rejettent ou les négligent. Le changement d’état d’esprit que produit l'évangile, lorsqu'il est prêché avec fidélité et réellement accepté, est une preuve constante, une preuve miraculeuse, qu’il est la puissance de Dieu pour le salut de quiconque croit !
