Jésus ne veut ni exciter de fausses espérances messianiques parmi le peuple, ni provoquer avant le temps la haine de ses adversaires. A l'heure du martyre, il déclarera lui-même solennellement qui il est. (Matthieu 26.63,64)

- Ce mot très accentué : "Qu'il est lui le Christ," que nos versions affaiblissent, reporte la pensée sur le dialogue qui précède, versets 13-16.

- Le texte reçu porte : "que lui Jésus est le Christ." Mot ajouté, non authentique.
