Le désert montagneux, en regard de l'orient et de l'occident, doit désigner ici le sud de la Palestine. L'omission du nord s'explique par le fait que l'ennemi blasphémateur est venu de ce côté-là.

La phrase du verset 7 n'est pas terminée. On s'attendrait, après la triple négation : ni de l'orient, ni de l'occident, ni du désert..., à quelque chose comme ceci : c'est du sein même d'Israël que vient la verge qui va vous frapper ; et c'est bien ce qui eut lieu sous Judas Maccabée. Mais le psalmiste s'interrompt, pour regarder plus haut et ne plus voir que Dieu comme juge.
