Romains 7.6

Nous avons été affranchis de la loi (grec abrogés loin de la loi) ; c'est la même expression qui était employée à verset 2 pour dire que la femme était "affranchie de la loi" qui la liait à son mari. La loi n'a plus de prise sur nous, car nous sommes morts et tout ce qu'elle pouvait atteindre et condamner en nous a été crucifié avec Christ.

- Etant morts à cette loi sous laquelle nous étions détenus : les mots cette loi ne sont pas dans le grec ; il n'y a qu'un pronom relatif que plusieurs prennent au neutre : "étant morts à ce qui nous retenait captifs" c'est-à-dire au péché.

Mais il semble plus conforme au contexte de rapporter ce pronom à la loi (verset 4) l'idée est que nous étions détenus dans la loi, dans tout le régime légal, comme dans une prison.

- En sorte que nous servions (grec) en nouveauté d'Esprit et non en vieillesse de lettre, c'est-à-dire dans une conduite nouvelle que l'Esprit inspire, dans l'état nouveau ou son action nous introduit.

Le terme : vieillesse de lettre, renferme peut-être une allusion aux "vieil homme." Le contraste entre l'Esprit et la lettre se trouve développé 2Corinthiens 3.6 et suivants La lettre, c'est la loi qui commande, défend, exige, condamne, mais ne donne aucune force au pécheur.

Servir en vieillesse de lettre, c'est vivre sous ce régime légal qui nous laisse dans notre état naturel d'impuissance et de mort. Lorsque, au contraire, nous avons accepté la grâce et sommes entrés en communion vivante avec le Christ ressuscité, nous servons en nouveauté d'Esprit, parce que l'Esprit qui nous est communiqué, renouvelant notre être entier, nous rend vivants, spirituels et consacrés à Dieu.

      Romains 6

      Romains 7

      1 Or don't you know, brothers (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man for as long as he lives?
      4 Therefore, my brothers, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you would be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit to God.
      6 But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.
