La plus glorieuse promesse : Israël deviendra une source de bénédictions pour tous les peuples.

Vous avez été malédiction. En attirant sur lui, par ses péchés, le châtiment de l'exil, Israël avait donné lieu aux païens de se moquer de Jéhova comme d'un Dieu incapable de défendre son peuple. Il avait ainsi fait blasphémer les païens témoins de sa ruine. On peut entendre aussi : Vous êtes devenus un objet, et par là même, un exemple proverbial de malédiction pour les autres peuples. Comparez Jérémie 29.2.

Vous serez bénédiction. Cette promesse peut s'entendre dans l'un ou l'autre sens que nous venons de donner à l'idée opposée.

Maison de Juda et maison d'Israël. Le prophète étend cette promesse aussi aux restes des dix tribus qui étaient rentrés avec les restes de Juda. Peut-être ajoute-t-il spécialement ces mots en pensant à la population de Béthel qui avait provoqué tout ce discours.
