Depuis longtemps, David appréhendait en permanence de tomber entre les mains de Saül, bien que le jeune berger s'efforçât de tenir une conduite respectueuse vis-à-vis de ce dernier, qui ne cessait de le persécuter. On ne peut qu'admirer une telle attitude, prudente et réservée, malgré les insultes et les provocations reçues de la part de Saül !

Nous devrions chercher à imiter cette démarche exemplaire : notre comportement manifeste-t-il la sagesse, dans tout ce que nous entreprenons ? Y a-t-il des « failles » et des élans inconsidérés dans notre conduite, dus au péché, rien qui ne soit mauvais ?

L'opposition et les contrariétés que peut nous faire subir notre prochain n'excusent en rien notre mauvaise humeur éventuelle, mais devraient au contraire accroître notre désir d'accomplir ce que nous recommande la Parole, là où nous nous trouvons.

Considérons Celui qui a enduré toutes les oppositions de la part des pécheurs, de peur de tomber dans la lassitude et la tiédeur, Heb 12:3.

Si David a ressenti un certain honneur en devenant le gendre du roi, combien devrions-nous avoir le même sentiment, étant les « fils » du Roi des rois !
