Pria et dit. Ce chant est une prière, une prière de louange. Anne commence par la grâce qui lui a été accordée à elle-même et l'humiliation dont a été frappée son ennemie (verset 1). De là elle s'élève à la contemplation du caractère de l'Eternel (versets 2 et 3) ; puis elle décrit son œuvre de justice au sein de l'humanité, par laquelle il relève les faibles et abaisse les oppresseurs (versets 4 à 8), et, jetant les regards dans l'avenir, elle voit cette œuvre se déployer avec puissance jusqu'à l'anéantissement de tout ce qui résiste à Dieu ici-bas et au jugement universel qui sera exercé par celui auquel Dieu confiera cet acte suprême (versets 9 à 10).
On a de tout temps remarqué l'analogie de cet hymne avec celui de marie (Luc 1.46-55). Les trois premiers versets de ce dernier répondent à notre verset 1 ; les versets 49 et 50 aux versets 2 et 3, les versets 51 à 53 aux versets 4 à 8 et les versets 54 et 55 aux versets 9 et 10. Seulement dans le cantique de Marie tout est plus doux, plus calme, plus solennel ; l'idée de la miséricorde de Dieu envers les faibles et envers Israël y domine sur celle de la justice, qui préside au cantique d'Anne.
Cette ressemblance entre ces deux hymnes s'explique aisément, car chaque jeune fille israélite connaissait par cœur les anciens cantiques nationaux.

Contre mes ennemis. A la joie d'Anne se mêle le souvenir amer des longues humiliations dont elle avait été victime.
Le cantique de reconnaissance d'Anne. (1 Samuel 2:1-10)
Le cœur d'Anne se réjouit, non pas par la naissance de Samuel, mais directement « en » l'Éternel. Son âme ne se polarisait pas sur le don qu'elle reçut, mais sur Celui qui le lui procura. Anne se réjouit dans le salut de Dieu et dans l'espérance de la venue du Sauveur, seule possibilité de salut pour les siens.La méchanceté des fils d'Éli, Le ministère de Samuel. (1 Samuel 2:11-26)
La prophétie contre la famille d'Eli. (1 Samuel 2:27-36)
L'homme puissant sera brisé et le misérable sera élevé, selon le bon vouloir de l'Éternel.
Sommes-nous dans la pauvreté ? C'est Dieu qui en a voulu ainsi et nous devons nous contenter de notre situation, en nous humiliant devant Sa Volonté. Au contraire, vivons-nous dans les richesses ?
Là encore, nous devrions être reconnaissants et servir Celui qui nous a ainsi comblés, en pratiquant le bien avec l'abondance dont nous bénéficions.
Le Seigneur n'a pas de considération envers la sagesse ou les soi-disant mérites d'un homme ; par contre Il choisit l'individu qui, aux yeux du monde, peut paraître insensé, afin que cet homme révèle aux autres à quel point ces derniers sont fautifs et dans le besoin du Salut gratuit et précieux.
Après avoir loué Dieu, pour Sa Providence, ce cantique d'Anne, est en fait une prophétie : l'avènement du Royaume de Christ et celui de la Grâce. C'est pratiquement la première fois dans la Parole, où il est annoncé que l'Éternel a Son Roi, Son Oint.
La véracité du Royaume de Christ est absolue, Ses ennemis iront à la ruine. L'Oint, le Seigneur Jésus, est capable, à la fois de détruire et de sauver !
