World English Bible Those who strive with Yahweh shall be broken to pieces. He will thunder against them in the sky. "Yahweh will judge the ends of the earth. He will give strength to his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed."

Il tonnera. La voix du tonnerre est toujours envisagée comme un signe et un prélude du jugement divin. Ce jugement universel est prédit dans les mots suivants.

Il donnera puissance à son roi. Par ce roi on doit entendre non tel ou tel roi d'Israël, mais la royauté personnifiée dans tous les individus qui en seront successivement revêtus, et finalement dans celui qui réalisera le jugement universel qui vient d'être annoncé, c'est-à-dire le Messie ; comparez 2.35. La plupart des interprètes, plaçant la composition de ce cantique dans une époque postérieure à l'établissement de la royauté, rapportent ces derniers mots au roi régnant à ce moment-là dont un chantre israélite aurait célébré une victoire. Mais cette application ne convient pas aux traits tout à fait individuels qui se trouvent dans les versets 1, 3 et 5. Il faudrait plutôt supposer que les derniers mots du cantique ont été ajoutés plus tard, lorsque cette poésie, devenue populaire, était chantée à l'époque des rois.

Son oint. On oignait d'huile les rois aussi bien que les sacrificateurs.
