Peut-être faut-il voir dans ces dernières paroles une allusion à certains faits particuliers, comme la séduction du premier homme, (Genèse 3.1-5) ou la tentation de Jésus-Christ, (Matthieu 4.1 et suivants) dans lesquelles Satan se déguisa en ange de lumière, c'està-dire en envoyé du Dieu qui est lumière. Tels apparaissent les vrais anges, resplendissants de la gloire d'en haut. (Matthieu 28.3 ; Actes 12.7, etc.)

C'est ce qui a lieu dans chaque tentation : Satan présente toujours le péché sous de fausses couleurs, sous les apparences du bien.

"Les diables blancs sont plus dangereux que les noirs." Luther.

Cette comparaison avec Satan augmente encore la sévérité du jugement que Paul prononce sur ces faux apôtres.
