Il s'agit des flèches renfermées dans le carquois que portait Joas. Il doit les tirer de la fenêtre contre terre, comme pour achever un ennemi abattu. Trois fois. Il y avait certainement plus de trois flèches, en tous cas cinq ou six (verset 19), dans le carquois, et, après ce qui venait de se passer, Joas aurait dû, plein d'élan, le vider tout entier, pour répondre à l'invitation d'Elisée qui était la promesse d'une série de victoires. Mais il manque d'énergie, de zèle ou de persévérance et, en se bornant à tirer trois flèches, il limite lui-même le nombre de ses victoires. De là le mécontentement du prophète verset 19. Cette première victoire (verset 17) devait être suivie de plusieurs autres par lesquelles Israël rentrerait dans la pleine possession du pays au-delà du Jourdain ; c'est ce que doit signifier le nouvel acte symbolique qui suit. Il s'agit des flèches renfermées dans le carquois que portait Joas. Il doit les tirer de la fenêtre contre terre, comme pour achever un ennemi abattu. Trois fois. Il y avait certainement plus de trois flèches, en tous cas cinq ou six (verset 19), dans le carquois, et, après ce qui venait de se passer, Joas aurait dû, plein d'élan, le vider tout entier, pour répondre à l'invitation d'Elisée qui était la promesse d'une série de victoires. Cette première victoire (verset 17) devait être suivie de plusieurs autres par lesquelles Israël rentrerait dans la pleine possession du pays au-delà du Jourdain ; c'est ce que doit signifier le nouvel acte symbolique qui suit. Il s'agit des flèches renfermées dans le carquois que portait Joas. Il doit les tirer de la fenêtre contre terre, comme pour achever un ennemi abattu. Trois fois. Il y avait certainement plus de trois flèches, en tous cas cinq ou six (verset 19), dans le carquois, et, après ce qui venait de se passer, Joas aurait dû, plein d'élan, le vider tout entier, pour répondre à l'invitation d'Elisée qui était la promesse d'une série de victoires.
