La dernière image que Paul a employée réveille dans l'esprit tout un ordre de pensées relatives aux glorieuses promesses faites aux serviteurs fidèles, (Daniel 12.3 ; Matthieu 19.28 ; 25.21) à la peine, à la patience, aux renoncements qui sont inséparables de leur vocation : voilà ce que Timothée doit considérer, méditer encore pour son encouragement, avec cette intelligence que le Seigneur lui donnera.

- Le texte reçu exprime cette dernière pensée sous la forme d'un vœu : "Que le Seigneur te donne l'intelligence." Cette leçon n'est pas autorisée, la particule car aurait dû déjà en avertir ; elle motive par une promesse précieuse le devoir de considérer.
