Le témoignage de tous les prophètes avait précédé le témoignage des apôtres, pour attester que quiconque croit au Sauveur, à quelque nationalité qu'il appartienne, reçoit la rémission ou le pardon de ses péchés par son nom, c'est-à-dire en lui et par lui.

Voilà l'universalité du salut proclamée par Pierre, comme elle le sera par Paul. (Romains 3.22)

Quel sujet de joie pour les païens qui écoutaient ces paroles !

- Quand Pierre dit : tous les prophètes, il ne prétend pas qu'il y ait dans les écrits de tous des passages précis déclarant que le pardon des péchés est accordé à quiconque croit au Sauveur mais tous, en annonçant le libérateur et les temps évangéliques, annonçaient implicitement cette précieuse vérité.
