Après avoir parlé de David avec tant de vénération, Paul arrive de la manière la plus naturelle, au grand sujet de son discours qui était d'annoncer le Sauveur.

De la semence de David, Dieu a suscité (C, D), ce Sauveur, ou, selon une variante généralement admise, l'a amené à Israël, dans la personne de Jésus dont le nom même signifie Sauveur.

Et l'apôtre a soin d'ajouter que cette grande manifestation de la miséricorde divine a eu lieu selon la promesse de Dieu, promesse bien connue de ses auditeurs, et qui devait leur inspirer de la confiance en ce Jésus en qui Dieu l'a accomplie.

Cette promesse se trouve dans les prédictions messianiques de tous les prophètes. (Comparer Luc 1.69,70)
