Etienne seul eut cette glorieuse vision ; les membres du sanhédrin ne s'aperçurent de rien ; mais Etienne dit ce qu'il voyait, afin que cela leur servit de témoignage.

Il nomme Jésus le Fils de l'homme, sans doute par allusion à la vision de Daniel (Daniel 7.13,14 ; comparez Matthieu 26.64 ; Luc 22.69) qui, lui aussi contemple Celui dont la domination et le règne sont éternels.

C'est ici le seul passage où ce nom, que Jésus prend ordinairement lui-même dans les évangiles lui est donné par un de ses disciples.
