La bible annotée Commentaire de Matthew Henry

D'une mer à l'autre. On pourrait entendre : de la mer Morte à la mer Méditerranée, comme Joël 2.20 ; Zacharie 14.8 ; mais la suite conduit plutôt à donner à cette expression un sens plus large, comme celui qu'elle a Psaumes 72.8 ; Zacharie 9.10. Dans ces passages, la terre elle-même tout entière est représentée comme allant d'un océan à un autre.

Et, du septentrion et à l'orient ; cette expression est ici une abréviation de l'expression complète du septentrion au midi et de l'occident à l'orient. Il s'agit donc d'un temps de détresse pour Israël où, dispersé sur la terre, il attendra en vain quelque signe divin ou quelque prophète qui apaise son angoisse par une promesse d'en-haut.
