Le mot traduit par irriter signifie proprement exciter ; il ne se retrouve dans le Nouveau Testament que dans 2Corinthiens 9.2, employé en un bon sens. La pensée de l'apôtre est rendue claire par le passage parallèle, (Ephésiens 6.4) où il dit : "Ne provoquez point à la colère."

Plusieurs manuscrits ont ce mot dans notre passage, mais c'est une simple correction.
