Un homme peut avoir cent enfants et vivre longtemps. À quoi cela sert-il s’il n’est pas heureux pendant sa longue vie et s’il n’a pas de funérailles ? À mon avis, il vaut mieux être un bébé qui meurt à sa naissance.

Si son âme ne se rassasie pas de biens : s'il ne pratique pas la règle de conduite indiquée ci-dessus (5.18 : jouir du bien comme d'un don de Dieu).

Et que même il n'ait pas de sépulture. Si par son humeur chagrine il s'est aliéné le cœur de ses proches, et que sa mort soit pour eux une délivrance, il sera porté en terre, mais ce ne sera pas réellement une sépulture, un deuil. Comparez Jérémie 22.13-19.

Un avorton. Ici l'Ecclésiaste pense peut-être à Job 3.16.
