Prophète. C'est la catégorie, la classe, qui est désignée ici, sans égard à la question de savoir si elle est représentée par de vrais ou de faux prophètes. Elle disparaîtra, comme toutes les autres catégories d'hommes influents qui auraient pu sauver l'Etat.

Devin : l'évocateur, le diseur de bonne aventure (1Samuel 28). On ne pourra plus consulter, ni vrai, ni faux révélateur.

Ancien. Les anciens étaient les chefs héréditaires des différentes branches de chaque tribu ; les anciens de chaque ville formaient un collège qui en constituait l'autorité locale et y remplissait certaines fonctions judiciaires (Deutéronome 21.1 et suivants ; 1Samuel 11.3 ; 1Rois 21.8).
