Esaïe 40.1-24

Les idoles et leurs adorateurs ne parviendront jamais à rien ; mais ceux qui placent leur confiance en la Grâce divine, connaîtront la félicité céleste ! Avec l'Éternel il n'y a ni origine des jours, ni fin de la vie, ni changement de temps. Son Nom est Saint, et tous doivent Le connaître ainsi.

Il aura une tendre compassion envers ceux qui s'approchent de Lui, l'esprit contrit, Son courroux sera apaisé. Il fera Sa demeure avec ceux dont le cœur s'est humilié, afin de les vivifier spirituellement et de les réconforter. Quand l'épreuve les assaille longuement, même les hommes droits sont tentés d'avoir des pensées « négatives » à l'encontre de Dieu. Mais ce Dernier ne contestera pas pour toujours, parce qu'Il n'abandonnera pas le fruit de Son « œuvre », ni la Rédemption, opérée par le sang de Son Fils.

La convoitise est un péché qui place particulièrement les hommes sous le mécontentement divin. Remarquez le caractère honteux du péché. Les épreuves, quant à elles, ne peuvent pas corriger les hommes, à moins que la Grâce divine n'opère en eux.

La Paix de Dieu est annoncée, une Paix parfaite ! Elle est le fruit de ceux qui prêchent l'évangile, de ceux qui prient. Christ est venu prêcher la Paix aux Gentils, aussi bien qu'aux Juifs, et ce, en tous temps !

Les méchants ne seront pas « guéris » par la Grâce divine, ils ne pourront pas bénéficier du réconfort céleste. Leurs convoitises et leurs passions ne feront que les exciter, telle une mer agitée. En outre, les anxiétés qu'ils pourront connaître, ne feront que gâcher leurs plaisirs. Dieu, dans Sa colère à l'encontre des pécheurs, a bien annoncé cet état de fait, et le monde, malgré cela, n'en a pas tenu compte : ceux qui persistent dans les voies du péché, ne connaîtront aucune Paix.

Si nous sommes rachetés, « récupérés » d'un si triste état, c'est uniquement par la Grâce de Dieu ! Par l'influence de l'Esprit Saint, notre cœur est régénéré ; ce qui provoque notre louange spirituelle, notre reconnaissance, le « fruit » de nos lèvres ; toutes ces choses sont les manifestations de ce Don. Le salut, avec tout ce qui en découle, l'espérance, et le réconfort, est le résultat de Son œuvre : à Lui, en appartient toute la gloire !

Il n'y a aucune paix réservée à l'homme méchant : qu'il abandonne d'abord sa voie et ses mauvaises pensées ; qu'il se tourne vers le Seigneur, et ce Dernier sera alors plein de compassion pour lui et lui accordera pleinement Son pardon !
