World English Bible "I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the peoples there was no man with me: yes, I trod them in my anger, and trampled them in my wrath; and their lifeblood is sprinkled on my garments, and I have stained all my clothing.

Le sang des peuples broyés a jailli sur lui, comme le jus de la grappe sur les vêtements des travailleurs. Comparez Joël 3.13 ; Apocalypse 19.13-15.

Le prophète distingue deux actes successifs de jugement : le premier, contre Edom ; Jéhova l'a exécuté à lui seul, aucun des peuples n'a voulu l'aider, car tous lui étaient hostiles. Le second, contre ces peuples eux-mêmes ; il l'a accompli également par sa seule force.

Les peuples : tout le inonde païen. Israël (Israël fidèle tout au moins) est laissé en dehors du tableau.

Les Pères de l'Eglise ont en général cru qu'il était question ici du Christ et de son sacrice expiatoire. Cette idée est absolument étrangère au contexte. Il est très clair qu'il s'agit ici de jugement, non de salut, et que le sang dont les vêtements du guerrier sont couverts n'est pas le sien propre, mais celui des peuples.
