De même que les épouses favorites avaient une grande influence sur les rois de Perse, ainsi Zéresch apparaît ici comme la conseillère de son mari. Elle n'entrevoit pas même la possibilité d'un refus de la part du roi qui a accordé à Haman le peuple juif tout entier, et elle compte sans Celui qui incline les cœurs (6.1 et suivants). Le gibet doit être dressé à l'avance pour que Mardochée puisse y être pendu immédiatement et qu'Haman en allant dîner n'ait plus d'affront à essuyer.

Cinquante coudées de haut : environ vingt mètres. Il fallait que la victoire d'Haman éclatât à tous les yeux. C'est peut-être ici que la trame de la tragédie nous apparaît le plus serrée. La foi a déjà remporté une victoire : Esther n'a pas été mise à mort. Mais que d'atouts encore dans les mains des ennemis des Juifs ! Les craintes de ceux-ci et l'orgueil d'Haman sont à leur apogée. Heureusement que dans ce qui suit l'invisible main de Dieu va se faire sentir, comme on l'a vue lors du festin de Belsatsar.
