On gravit le sommet du Djébel-Mousa en un peu plus de deux heures ; il ne fallait à Moïse qu'une heure pour en redescendre.

Ayant Aaron avec toi. Comme futur grand-sacrificateur, Aaron doit remonter avec Moïse sur le Sinaï ; car cette montagne représente en ce moment le Lieu très-saint du Tabernacle futur, dans lequel Aaron et Moïse auront seuls le droit d'entrer.

L'entretien du peuple avec Moïse raconté 20.18-20 ne permet pas de supposer que Moïse et Aaron soient remontés au sommet de la montagne et aient assisté de là à la promulgation de la loi. Ils devaient sans doute rester dans le voisinage du peuple, en ce moment solennel, pour veiller à l'observation de la défense précédente. C'était la raison pour laquelle Dieu avait fait redescendre Moïse qui aurait préféré, paraît-il (verset 23), rester sur la montagne. Et comme il n'est point dit qu'après là promulgation Moïse et Aaron soient montés au sommet, il est probable que les mots : Tu monteras et Aaron avec toi, signifient simplement : Vous, vous pourrez franchir la limite posée au peuple et vous tenir sur la montagne sans encourir la peine de mort.
Ils se tinrent donc sur la pente de la montagne, en face du peuple, durant la solennité suivante.
