Ezéchiel 11.1-25

Segond 21 Pendant que je prophétisais, Pelathia, fils de Benaja, est mort. Je suis alors tombé le visage contre terre et me suis écrié à pleine voix : « Ah ! Seigneur Eternel, vas-tu exterminer ce qui reste d'Israël ? »

World English Bible It happened, when I prophesied, that Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. Then fell I down on my face, and cried with a loud voice, and said, Ah Lord Yahweh! will you make a full end of the remnant of Israel?

Pélatia mourut. Comme Ezéchiel avait vu en vision, 9.8, la destruction prochaine de la population de Jérusalem, Dieu lui fait voir, à ce moment de la vision, la mort subite de l'un des deux chefs du parti rebelle, comme un gage de l'accomplissement de ses menaces générales. Doit-on penser que ce fait se passait en ce moment même à Jérusalem ? Ou cet événement n'eut-il lieu que plus tard, lorsque le compte-rendu de cette vision parvint à Jérusalem ? La première supposition paraît plus vraisemblable. Comparez comme analogie 2Rois 5.26 ; Actes 5.5.

Il est touchant de voir le prophète si prompt à compatir au malheur de ses adversaires et à intercéder en leur faveur. Comparez Exode 32.31, où Moïse s'interpose pour le peuple infidèle,
