World English Bible Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me the voice of a great rushing, saying, Blessed be the glory of Yahweh from his place.

12 à 15 Le prophète est ramené par la force divine au milieu de ceux auxquels il doit parler de la part de Dieu.

Ezéchiel avait reçu cette vision dans un endroit solitaire sur les bords du fleuve (verset 23). Son état d'extase (1.3) ne cesse que lorsqu'il a été ramené auprès d'eux.

M'enleva. Ce fait appartient encore à la vision, mais il est accompagné du déplacement local d'Ezéchiel (verset 15).

Bénie soit la gloire. Ces mots expriment le contraste entre la sphère sainte où retentit cette voix d'adoration et où vient de séjourner le prophète, et le triste état de ce peuple dans le sein duquel il doit maintenant rentrer.

L'expression : au lieu de sa demeure, nous paraît se rapporter à bénie, et non à j'entendis ; comparez Luc 2.14 et Luc 19.38 : Gloire à Dieu dans les lieux très hauts ! Il y a un puissant encouragement pour le prophète à avoir été associé un moment au culte céleste (2Corinthiens 12.1 et suivants).

Cette mission, envoyée au prophète, réjouit le cœur des saints anges. Toutes les visions précédentes étaient destinées à convaincre Ézéchiel : Dieu qui l'envoyait, avait le pouvoir de le soutenir dans sa tâche.

Ézéchiel était à la fois accablé par le constat de la misère et des péchés du peuple d’Israël, tout en étant terrassé par la gloire de la vision qu'il avait eue. Cependant, l’isolement, la méditation et la communion qu’il avait avec Dieu, lui semblaient extraordinaires ; le serviteur de l’Éternel devait se préparer à servir les siens. Le Seigneur annonça au prophète qu'il était promu « gardien de la maison d'Israël ».

Si nous avertissons le méchant de ce qu’il l’attend, nous ne sommes pas imputables de sa ruine. Bien que de tels passages bibliques se rapportent à l'alliance divine faite avec Israël, ils peuvent également s’appliquer à la destinée de tout homme, en tout temps. Nous devons non seulement encourager et soutenir ceux qui pratiquent la droiture, mais nous devons aussi les avertir, afin qu’ils ne tombent pas dans un certain orgueil ou une sorte d’autosatisfaction, qui pourraient résulter de leur conduite ; ce serait alors les laisser sombrer dans le péché.

Il est certain que ceux qui entendent l’évangile, ne doivent pas rester insensibles à ses avertissements, voire même, ses reproches.
