Une part : Toutes ces parts doivent être égales ; il n'en était pas ainsi dans la répartition faite par Josué (Nombres 26.52-54). Toutes les tribus sont ici, parait-il, supposées égales en nombre.

L'un comme l'autre. Cette expression est expliquée par la formule répétée à l'occasion de chaque tribu : de la frontière orientale à la frontière occidentale. Le territoire de chaque tribu doit partir de la Méditerranée à l'ouest, et aboutir au Jourdain, à l'est. Il doit comprendre par conséquent une partie de la plaine maritime, une partie du plateau et une partie de la vallée du Jourdain. Les tribus ont ainsi toutes, l'une comme l'autre, part aux divers avantages et aux productions variées de ces trois zones qui se partagent le pays, du nord au sud. C'est par cette juste répartition que la nouvelle Canaan devient le type de toute organisation normale. Cette répartition est absolument différente de l'ancienne.
