World English Bible You went forth for the salvation of your people, for the salvation of your anointed. You crushed the head of the land of wickedness. You stripped them head to foot. Selah.

Ton Oint. Ce mot ne désigne pas ici (comme le veulent quelques interprètes) l'ensemble du peuple élu, car il n'est nulle part appelé de ce nom ; il ne désigne pas davantage tel ou tel roi particulier de Juda, mais bien, au sens absolu, tout roi de la famille de David en tant qu'oint de l'Eternel, jusqu'à et y compris l'Oint par excellence, le plus glorieux descendant de la dynastie élue, le Messie.

Maison du méchant. Le méchant est ici, non le peuple chaldéen, mais le roi même, en sa qualité de chef et de représentant de la puissance terrestre, qui combat contre Dieu. La dynastie royale est dépeinte sous l'image d'une maison dont on abat le faîte. Une fois le faîte abattu, la maison n'est plus qu'une ruine délabrée.

Du haut en bas ; littéralement : depuis les fondations jusqu'au cou ; le cou, c'est tout ce qui est au-dessous du faîte (figuré par la tête).
