Jean 10.15

comme le Père me connaît et que je connais le Père. Je sacrifie ma vie pour mes brebis.

Jésus répète cette grande déclaration : Je suis le bon berger, pour la mettre en opposition avec le caractère du mercenaire ; puis il décrit en deux traits profonds ce qui fait de lui le Berger parfait.

D'abord, il y a entre lui et ses brebis une connaissance mutuelle fondée sur la confiance et l'amour, une communion de même nature que celle qui existe entre lui et son Père. (Comparer Jean 14.20 ; 15.10 ; 17.8,21,26)

Ensuite, ce qui le caractérise surtout comme le bon Berger, c'est le dévouement suprême de son amour : Il donne sa vie pour ses brebis. (verset 11, note.)

Ainsi se consomme la communion profonde et vivante du fidèle avec Dieu par l'intermédiaire du Sauveur, qui, pour réintroduire les siens dans cette unité divine, donne sa vie.
