Aux portes de la terre. S'agit-il des limites du monde habitable, d'où le prophète Ezéchiel annonce que Dieu fera revenir le peuple (7.2 ; 37.9), ou bien seulement des frontières de Canaan ? Les deux interprétations ont été données, et la première, quoique hardie, peut se défendre. La seconde est cependant plus simple. Le rouleau passera sur eux dans l'aire (la terre de Canaan) ; puis le van (l'exil) les jettera hors de leur pays. Comparez la même image Amos 9.9.

Je les priverai d'enfants... La nation sera privée de ses guerriers, qui sont les époux des veuves et les fils des mères mentionnées verset 8 et 9.
