Vos pères : Vous êtes les fils de vos pères ; vous n'avez rien appris et rien oublié. Injustes comme ils l'étaient, c'étaient eux qui osaient accuser Dieu d'injustice, parce qu'il ne répondait pas à leurs prétentions. Mêmes dispositions orgueilleuses condamnées : Romains 9.1-33.

La vanité : les idoles. La vanité des idoles se communique à leurs adorateurs. La même pensée est exprimée Psaumes 115.8 : Ceux qui les font, et tous ceux qui s'y confient, leur seront faits semblables. Comparez aussi Romains 1.21, où Paul fait peut-être allusion à notre passage.
