C'est la ville tout entière qui sera ce qu'était l'arche, le marchepied de Dieu. Comparez Esaïe 60.11-14 ; Apocalypse 21.1-22.21. En même temps que la vérité religieuse sera ainsi dégagée des anciennes formes, elle se répandra au-delà de son ancien domaine en Canaan. L'universalité de la religion nouvelle sera la conséquence de sa spiritualité. Mais la gloire de Jérusalem sera toute d'ordre moral. Les païens n'y viendront que pour y être sanctifiés.

Ce tableau surpasse les plus nobles conceptions auxquelles aurait pu s'élever le génie de l'homme.
