Moses stretched out his rod toward the heavens, and Yahweh sent thunder, hail, and lightning flashed down to the earth. Yahweh rained hail on the land of Egypt.

So there was very severe hail, and lightning mixed with the hail, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.

La descente de Beth-Horon. Josué poursuivit les Cananéens jusqu'à la Haute Beth-Horon. Là s'ouvre un défilé très étroit et très raboteux, descendant jusqu'à la Basse Beth-Horon. C'est dans ce défilé que les Cananéens furent surpris par une pluie de pierres, dans laquelle les uns voient une pluie de gros grêlons, d'autres une chute d'aérolithes ; la seconde manière de voir permettrait de prendre le mot de pierres au sens propre. Néanmoins, comme une grande partie des Cananéens réussit sans doute à atteindre la plaine, il était à redouter que, si l'on ne pouvait les atteindre à temps, ils ne parvinssent à se réfugier dans les villes fortifiées du bas pays et à prolonger leur résistance. C'est là ce qui motiva la prière de Josué.
