Il faut remarquer que, dans le premier évangile, ces conseils se rapportent à la ruine de Jérusalem et à la précipitation avec laquelle les disciples devront fuir devant ces calamités.

Luc, qui parle ici de l'avènement du Seigneur, les entend dans un sens différent, mais également vrai : alors les disciples devront être détachés de tout, tout abandonner pour s'en aller au-devant du Seigneur. (verset 32)
