Matthieu 5.11, note.

Il y a une gradation dans tous ces actes qui procèdent de la haine. Ils vous excluront de leurs sociétés, de leurs synagogues, de leurs églises, même bien souvent de vos droits civils. (Jean 9.22,34 ; 12.42 ; 16.2)

Rejeter le nom de quelqu'un comme mauvais, c'est mépriser ce nom au point de ne vouloir pas même le prononcer, comme s'il était le résumé de tout ce qu'il y a de plus méchant.

Ce nom est suivant les uns le nom individuel du croyant, suivant d'autres la désignation collective des disciples comme Nazaréens ou chrétiens. (Jacques 2.7) Le premier sens est plus naturel dans notre contexte.

- Et tout cela, à cause du fils de l'homme ! (Matthieu dit plus simplement et plus directement : à cause de moi.)

C'est lui qui est l'objet de toute cette haine, parce qu'il est le témoin vivant de la vérité. Et voilà pourquoi il déclare heureux ceux qui, par la même cause, souffrent avec lui.
